As we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of ability and luck. The aim is to move your chips safely around the board to your inner board while at the same time your opposition shifts their checkers toward their inner board in the opposing direction. With opposing player chips heading in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for specific tactics at particular times. Here are the last 2 Backgammon techniques to round out your game.
The Priming Game Tactic
If the purpose of the blocking tactic is to slow down the opponent to shift her pieces, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely barricade any activity of the opponent by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get bumped, or end up in a battered position if she at all attempts to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be established anywhere between point 2 and point 11 in your half of the board. Once you’ve successfully built the prime to stop the activity of the opponent, your opponent does not even get to roll the dice, that means you move your pieces and toss the dice again. You will be a winner for sure.
The Back Game Tactic
The aims of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game tactic are similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions hoping to better your odds of succeeding, but the Back Game strategy relies on alternate techniques to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is generally used when you’re far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this strategy, you have to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This technique is more difficult than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your chips and how the pieces are moved is partially the result of the dice roll.
