As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of talent and pure luck. The goal is to shift your pieces safely around the board to your inside board and at the same time your opposing player shifts their pieces toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With opposing player chips shifting in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for particular tactics at specific times. The Priming Game Plan
If the aim of the blocking plan is to slow down the opponent to shift their checkers, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely barricade any movement of the opponent by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s checkers will either get hit, or end up in a damaged position if he/she at all attempts to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anywhere between point two and point 11 in your game board. As soon as you have successfully built the prime to block the activity of your competitor, the competitor does not even get to roll the dice, and you shift your pieces and roll the dice again. You will win the game for sure.
The Back Game Technique
The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game plan are similar – to harm your opponent’s positions hoping to better your odds of succeeding, however the Back Game plan uses alternate tactics to do that. The Back Game tactic is generally used when you are far behind your opponent. To participate in Backgammon with this tactic, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This strategy is more difficult than others to employ in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your checkers and how the pieces are relocated is partially the result of the dice toss.
