The Essential Basics of Backgammon Tactics – Part Two

As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of ability and pure luck. The aim is to shift your chips safely around the game board to your home board while at the same time your opposition shifts their pieces toward their home board in the opposite direction. With opposing player checkers heading in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for particular techniques at specific instances. Here are the 2 final Backgammon plans to complete your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the goal of the blocking plan is to slow down the opponent to move their chips, the Priming Game strategy is to absolutely block any movement of the opposing player by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get hit, or result a bad position if she at all attempts to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anywhere between point 2 and point 11 in your game board. As soon as you have successfully built the prime to block the activity of the opponent, your opponent doesn’t even get a chance to toss the dice, that means you move your pieces and toss the dice again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Plan

The objectives of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game strategy are similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions with hope to boost your odds of winning, however the Back Game strategy relies on different tactics to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is often utilized when you are far behind your competitor. To participate in Backgammon with this plan, you have to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This plan is more difficult than others to use in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your chips and how the pieces are relocated is partially the outcome of the dice roll.
