Backgammon is the oldest game in recorded history. Also known as the "little war," backgammon started in ancient Iraq almost 5000 years ago. However, Egyptians referred to backgammon as "Senat," which was a close type of the present game played at this time. Centuries ago, only people in power, the ruling figures of royalty like Egyptian queens, were able to play. The game started to spread worldwide in time. Various Backgammon variants were developed in numerous countries and cultures, but the general rules of those versions resemble those of the antiquated form . For instance, Greece took hold of the game and called it by the title "bac gamen." From there, the Anglo’s started playing backgammon in the 1600’s and have stuck with it ever since. Backgammon and other archaic games weren’t ever accepted by many clergy. The clergy felt that the game was the work of Satan. This caused clergy to abolish and destroy the game. The ban and burning did not stop people competing games and being entertained.
Computers offer a new platform for Backgammon. When assorted video machines are sold all over the place, computer academics in Artificial Intelligence (AI) have been using Backgammon for doing research, advancing and analyzing AI ideas and breakthroughs because of the ease of game principles and difficulties of schemes.
