In astonishingly simple terms, there are three fundamental techniques employed. You must be agile enough to switch techniques instantly as the course of the game unfolds.
The Blockade
This is composed of assembling a 6-thick wall of pieces, or at a minimum as thick as you might achieve, to lock in the opponent’s checkers that are located on your 1-point. This is considered to be the most suitable course of action at the start of the game. You can build the wall anyplace within your 11-point and your two-point and then shift it into your home board as the game advances.
The Blitz
This is composed of locking your home board as fast as possible while keeping your challenger on the bar. For example, if your opposer tosses an early 2 and shifts one piece from your one-point to your three-point and you then toss a five-five, you are able to play 6/1 6/1 eight/three eight/three. Your competitor is now in big-time difficulty considering that they have two checkers on the bar and you have locked half your inside board!
The Backgame
This course of action is where you have two or higher anchors in your opponent’s home board. (An anchor spot is a position consisting of at least 2 of your checkers.) It needs to be employed when you are extremely behind as it greatly improves your chances. The strongest areas for anchors are near your competitor’s lower points and either on abutting points or with a single point separating them. Timing is essential for a powerful backgame: besides, there’s no point having 2 nice anchors and a complete wall in your own home board if you are then required to break up this right away, while your opponent is moving their pieces home, owing to the fact that you do not have any other additional checkers to shift! In this situation, it’s better to have checkers on the bar so that you are able to preserve your position up until your competitor gives you a chance to hit, so it will be a great idea to try and get your opponent to hit them in this situation!
