As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and luck. The goal is to shift your chips safely around the game board to your home board while at the same time your opponent moves their chips toward their inside board in the opposing direction. With competing player chips shifting in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for specific strategies at particular instances. Here are the last two Backgammon techniques to finish off your game.
The Priming Game Tactic
If the goal of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to move his pieces, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely barricade any activity of the opponent by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s chips will either get bumped, or result a damaged position if she at all attempts to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anywhere between point two and point 11 in your game board. Once you have successfully assembled the prime to prevent the activity of your opponent, the opponent doesn’t even get a chance to toss the dice, and you shift your pieces and toss the dice again. You will be a winner for sure.
The Back Game Plan
The aims of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game tactic are similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions in hope to better your odds of succeeding, but the Back Game strategy uses alternate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game strategy is commonly used when you are far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this technique, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This tactic is more complex than others to employ in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are relocated is partly the result of the dice roll.
